Jane Clarke has been an archaeologist and a history teacher, and is now a children's author - of more than 100 books. They include her Gilbert the Great picture books with Charles Fuge, Neon Leon picture books with Britta Teckentrup, her Dr KittyCat young fiction series for OUP and a great many more.
Jane began writing books for children while she was working in a library in Antwerp. Animals and archaeology have been her main inspiration, from her series of shark picture books Gilbert the Great to her young fiction work. Jane wrote first as Rex Stone in the long-running Dinosaur Cove series.
She now writes as herself. In chapter books for young readers like the Dr KittyCat series for OUP, and her Lottie Loves Nature and AL's Awesome Science series for Five Quills.
Having written for just about everyone over a long career as a children's author, Jane Clarke makes her Walker debut in 2022 with Lucy Fleming and A Small Person’s Guide to Grandmas, a picture book which contains the sage advice: try not to break your grandma; you may need her later.
Over the past few years Jane's Nosy Crow partnership with Britta Teckentrup has led to four delightful interactive Neon Picture Books - Neon Leon, Firefly Home, Leap Frog and Tiptoe Tiger.
Jane Clarke would love to think that someone somewhere will treasure her books the way she cherishes the books she read to her two sons when they were small.
