Julia Woolf is an author-illustrator - with books published by Macmillan, Andersen, Faber and Templar. She's newly represented by The Catchpole Agency.

Julia worked for twenty years in animation, including a decade at Dreamworks in Los Angeles - where she worked on films like Shrek and Madagascar. On her return to the UK she pivoted, ultimately receiving a distinction for her MA in Children’s Book Illustration from The Cambridge School of Art.

It was an illustration being shortlisted for the AOI Awards in New Talent that led to her first book as author-illustrator, Giraffe on A Bicycle. Published by Macmillan in 2016, Sir Chris Hoy read it on the BBC's Cbeebies Bedtime Stories.

Her Duck and Penguin Are Not Friends, published in 2019 by Andersen Press, was nominated for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal in 2020, and was one of BookTrust's Great 100 Books for 2020.

Julia also illustrated Calm Down Zebra by author Lou Kuenzler, published by Faber and Faber.

Alongside Julia’s published work, her illustration The Fox in the Forest was the inspiration behind architects Hawkins Brown's design of Ivydale Primary School in South London. The design subsequently won the 2018 RIBA London Award.

In a return to animation, Julia's short animated film The Chase was shortlisted for the AOI World Illustration Awards in the Animation Category in 2023.

Julia Woolf lives with her family in Kent, close to the coast and the countryside.
